Food Delivery On Demand

Project Overview

Food Delivery On Demand is a mobile food-ordering and delivery platform created for customers, chefs, restaurants and delivery partners.

Customers can browse food options and place orders from restaurants or selected chefs. Chefs and restaurant partners can manage their food items, receive orders and handle daily order activity. Delivery partners can complete their registration, manage assigned pickups and deliver orders to customers.

The platform was developed to support the complete food-ordering journey, from choosing a meal to preparing, picking up and delivering the order, through separate user roles.

What We Built

We developed three connected mobile applications for customers, chefs and delivery partners, along with the backend system that supports the platform. The customer application handles food discovery, ordering, payments and tracking. The chef application supports menu, order, review and earnings management. The delivery partner application covers onboarding, verification, navigation and delivery updates. We also developed the APIs, database structure and role-based workflows that allow the applications to work together.

Client Background

The Food Delivery On Demand team needed a mobile platform for customers, chefs, restaurants and delivery partners. They wanted customers to order food easily. Chefs and restaurants needed to manage menus and orders, while delivery partners needed to complete verification and handle deliveries. The team wanted each user role to have a clear workflow while keeping the complete ordering and delivery process connected.

Project Overview

Target Audience

Food Delivery On Demand is designed for:

  • Online food customers
  • Users looking for home chefs
  • Restaurants, cloud kitchens and independent food businesses
  • Delivery partners
  • Store operators
  • Platform administrators

Objectives

The main objectives were to:

  1. 01Connect customers, chefs and delivery partners
  2. 02Make food discovery and ordering easier
  3. 03Support restaurant and chef-based orders
  4. 04Keep checkout and payments simple
  5. 05Make order tracking easier
  6. 06Help chefs manage daily work
  7. 07Simplify partner onboarding
  8. 08Improve pickup and delivery coordination
  9. 09Keep users updated
  10. 10Support future business needs

Business Challenge

While planning the platform, we noticed several issues in the existing food-ordering and delivery process.

  1. 01Customers often had to use different sources to find restaurants, search for home chefs, place orders and check delivery updates. This made the complete process harder to follow.
  2. 02Independent chefs also needed a proper way to add food items, receive orders, review customer feedback and check their earnings.
  3. 03On the delivery side, partners had to complete verification and manage pickup details, customer information, routes and delivery times. Some orders also involved more than one pickup location, which made coordination more difficult.
  4. 04The main challenge was to manage ordering, chef activity, payments and deliveries through one mobile platform.

Our Solution

To solve these challenges, we developed separate applications for customers, chefs and delivery partners while keeping the complete process connected.

  • Customers can find restaurants and home chefs, search for food, use filters and place orders. They can select an address, make payments, track deliveries and contact delivery partners.
  • Chefs can add food items, update menus and manage incoming orders. They can also review feedback and check their earnings.
  • Delivery partners can register, upload documents and complete verification. After approval, they can manage assigned orders, follow routes and handle single or multiple pickups.
  • Google Maps supports addresses and navigation. Razorpay handles payments, while Firebase Notifications keeps users updated about orders and verification.

Development Process

We started by understanding the needs of customers, chefs and delivery partners. The main requirements included food search, menu management, ordering, payments, tracking, partner verification and delivery operations. We also planned how the three applications would work together from order placement to final delivery.

Technical Challenges and Solutions

01

Managing separate user roles

Different access, navigation and workflows were created for customers, chefs and delivery partners.

02

Keeping cart details accurate

Redux Toolkit kept item quantities, selected sizes and prices consistent across screens.

03

Managing food search and large listings

Category-based APIs, filters, pagination and optimised queries made food discovery faster.

04

Handling order and delivery updates

Order stages were managed through APIs, while Firebase Notifications kept users informed.

05

Supporting multiple pickup locations

Each pickup location was recorded separately under the same order.

06

Managing routes and navigation

Google Maps API supported address selection, pickup routes and delivery navigation.

07

Securing online payments

Razorpay verification and backend checks were completed before confirming an order.

08

Verifying delivery partners

Each uploaded document had its own record and verification status.

09

Managing failed pickups

Pending, failed and rescheduled statuses were added to handle incomplete pickups.
